what is pre production?

pre-production

- the stage before filming when planning and making the story boards , script and budgeting etc.

-it is during pre-production that all the many aspects of making a film, from choosing locations to casting Actors to scheduling the shoot are decided.

each pre production would be different depending on what the media products,e.g

What is the process involved in pre-production?

It involves finalizing the script, hiring the actors and crew, finding locations, determining what equipment you will need, figuring out the budget, and how you are going to go about making the media product. Pre-production solidifies your idea before you make the product.

Important parts of pre-production include storyboards, shot list, scripts etc, but this is specific to film and movie, but it could definitely apply to music videos and short film, but the planning will differ from print and web adverts etc..

What makes pre-production different from production?

Phase one (Pre-Production) is where all the planning and coordination happens,Production is when you capture all the elements that will be in your final video and phase three  is where all the elements get edited together and combined to create the final video.

What is the purpose of pre-production?

Pre-production helps media companies Analyse and plan how/when they are going to make their media product e.g. budgeting, castings, and location planning. Different media products require different planning, some need more planning than others. For example, a print advert would need less pre-production time than a film as it is one image/graphic with some text or editing, whereas a film would need extensive planning of locations, actors, storyboards, budgeting etc.

Task 2

Finance – film finance is an aspect of film production that occurs in pre-production to help plan out how much they need to spend and save.

Time- to take into consideration deadlines, and when people are available, pre-production usually ends when the contents start to be produced.

Facilities- Facilities in media production means a facility that provides indoor commercial and public communication/telecommunication uses, as well as outdoor sets, backlots, and other outdoor facilities for motion picture, television, video, sound, computer, and other communications media production.

Locations- Locations in media during pre–production means finding an appropriate location and booking your date & time to use it so that your time slot does not get taken away.

Personnel- Personnel in media during pre-production means finding members of the production team. This includes actors, extras, technical crew, contributors such as experts and specialists this role involves people who establish and administer content on various social media platforms.

Materials- Materials in media during pre-production include script, costumes, interviews, sound etc. All the essentials you would need for your production to go ahead. Like how the crew would need to work on scripts especially the script writers before you start filming your production

Codes of practice and legislation - During codes of practice and legislation in the pre-production stage, you must ensure there will be no copyright during production. This could mean music, sound effects, images, stories, settings, or characters. There can also be an issue about using brand logos without permission

task 3

The marvel franchise pre-production stage includes the budget which google says that on December of 2009, the Walt Disney company purchased Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion.

  • Doctor strange in the multiuniverse of madness- $200 million

  • Black widow- $200 million

  • Black panther- $200 million

  • Guardians of the galaxy- $200 million

  • The avengers- $200 million

  • Captain america (civil war0- $230 million

  • Black panther (Wakanda forever)- $250 million

  • Avengers(infinity war)- $325 million

  • Avengers(endgame)- $356 million

As you can see a  break down of the prices some of the marvel films cost starting from least expensive to most .

task 4

core assessment

Pre-production is the process of planning and executing every element before post-production begins. I chose the music sector because I have researched pre-production and why it's important in the music industry. Task 1 through four helped my research e.g., the types of factors during pre-production. Pre-production I music is vastly different to most other media products but it's quite like a film in the sense of a music video.

the process ion pre-production is very vital as u can't make the media production before you plan it wouldn't make sense of have a good outcome.

but also pre-production has many steps that need to be done in order too make the best for your media product. for example in film franchises like harry potter they would need a lot of planning as it requires a lot of planning to keep it the same.

Risk assessment

A risk assessment is the process of identifying what hazards exist, or may appear in the workplace, how they may cause harm and to take steps to minimize harm. It’s a fundamental part of managing health and safety and helps you to identify hazards and control the risk they create for those involved in your production. The process requires you to: take the time to systematically look at your activities. decide what hazards they present.

Using risk assessment can help you make better decisions, allocate resources more effectively, and ultimately ensure the success of your pre-production phase. risk assessment can also benefit your organisation. the use of a risk assessment will be different in a music video compared to a film as a film as a film requires more pre production.

Equipment booking

Equipment booking software lets you reserve items in advance to make sure they're available when you need them. It shows you where the equipment currently is, who's using it, and when it will be returned.

This helps companies see where their equipment is going and where it's being uses it helps them log and organize their equipment.

Storyboards

EquipmentBookingForm.crop_555x416_22,0.preview.JPG

Equipment Booking is your one-stop-shop for all pre-production needs. film production can be a chaotic process, which is why equipment booking makes it as smooth when in comes to filming and editing. etc.

Storyboards

Storyboards are visual representations that aid in the creation process of digital storytelling. Storyboards layout images in sequential order to create the flow of the production. They can also include technical aspects and explanations of design.

They help directors and producers plan out and decide the final scenes they are going to use and what shots they will use and sometimes the audio that will be edited into the scene.

overall the best pre-production process. would be to use most of them especially a shot list story board and location reece as they help you plan your media product the more you plan the better your product will plan out and it will keep you organised.

for call sheets they would not be necessary for smaller productions as you can just call each other but for bigger more important productions, for example a marvel film the would need to follow this as there more people invovled.
